Secret detection

Find hardcoded secrets before attackers do

Leaked credentials are one of the fastest ways into a system. BugSafer scans your repositories for committed API keys, access tokens, passwords and private keys, and reports each one with masked evidence so you can rotate it — without the secret ever being stored or displayed.

How BugSafer handles secrets

Provider-specific patterns

Detects keys for widely used services — including AWS, Azure, Google, GitHub, GitLab, Stripe, Slack, Twilio, SendGrid, Mailgun, OpenAI, Anthropic, npm and PyPI — plus generic tokens and private keys.

Masked evidence

Findings show the file, line and a masked preview. The raw secret is redacted before anything is stored or sent to AI analysis.

Optional live verification

Opt in to check whether a detected secret is still active with its provider, so you can prioritize credentials that work right now.

Config and CI files too

Secrets hide in more than source: environment files, Docker and Kubernetes configs and CI workflows are scanned as well.

How it works

  1. 1

    Connect your GitHub repository.

  2. 2

Run a scan — secrets are checked on every scan.

  3. 3

Rotate any exposed credential with the provider, then remove it from the code.

  4. 4

Schedule recurring scans so new leaks are caught and emailed to you.

Frequently asked questions

Does BugSafer store the secrets it finds?

No. Secrets are masked in findings and redacted before storage or AI analysis.

Is removing the secret from the code enough?

No. Once a credential has been committed, treat it as exposed: revoke or rotate it with the provider first, then remove it from the code.

What is live secret verification?

An opt-in check that asks the provider whether a detected credential is still valid. It is off by default because it sends the detected secret to that provider.
